Pet Dominion is leading the way in wellness care for pets. The era of vaccines and cursory exams in veterinary medicine is over. We include routine diagnostics as part of every physical in order to determine as much as possible about the internal and external health of your pets.

| Dr. Garrison has just collected a sterile urine sample directly from "Rocky's" bladder. This is a quick and painless process called cystocentesis. We run a urinalysis as part of every annual and senior exam. |
|
Joana is collecting blood from "Cain" for
a CBC and blood chemistry panel. These tests are run for every pet
having an annual or senior exam. A thyroid and cholestrol test
are also run for senior pets. |
The diagnostics allow us to screen the functions of the kidneys, liver, pancreas, urinary tract and thyroid gland. As a direct result we have diagnosed and treated pets in the early stages of kidney disease, diabetes and hyper- and hypo-thyroidism. We have caught countless urinary tract infections, bladder crystals and stones that went unnoticed due to a lack of observable symptoms.

| Dr. Garrison is using the otoscope to examine "Asia's" ear. Her son "Damian" is waiting his turn. Both "Asia" and "Damian" are here for their annual exam packages. |
|
Dr. Bassett is using a stethoscope to listen to "Anabelle's" heart and lungs. "Anabelle", an eight year old Airedale, is here for a senior exam package. |
We recommend that all senior pets (over seven years) get a physical with comprehensive blood work and urinalysis twice a year. As pets age, they become more susceptible to diseases that may not have bothered them when they were younger. Because each pet year is comparable to about seven human years, it is important for senior pets to be seen more than once a year. We include a mini blood profile and urinalysis as part of all adult pet (one to seven years) annual exams.

| Franca is checking "Foxy's" blood pressure. A blood pressure check is part of every exam at Pet Dominion. |
Along with the other diagnostics, we routinely check blood pressure. This aids in diagnosing hypertension which is often secondary to kidney or thyroid problems.
Therapy Laser treatments are a relatively new service at Pet Dominion. The many beneficial effects include pain management, wound healing and rehabilitation. Treatments are non invasive, take only minutes, and do not require sedation. The benefits are cumulative, chronic conditions require five to six treatments over a two to three week period and a booster every four to eight weeks to maintain the effect.
Acute conditions, such as hot spots, usually only require one to two treatments.
Pets are vaccinated against common infectious diseases. Pet Dominion's vaccine protocol is based on the American Animal Hospital Association and American Veterinary Medical Association recommendations.
Rabies is a special consideration in our area because of its high incidence in the wild animal population. The state of Maryland requires that the rabies vaccine be administered once every three years. We strongly recommend that all dogs and cats maintain a current rabies vaccine status.
