Wellness Care and Immunization

From the beginning as a frisky puppy or kitten through geriatric care, we are here for you and your pet to keep them healthy through all life stages. We have vaccine schedules and parasite testing and control designed specifically for your pet and their risks. Our state-of-the-art laboratory allows us to do most diagnostic testing in house with same day results. We recommend routine wellness exam packages for all of our patients.

Our goal is to prevent illness whenever possible. Through routine blood and urine testing we can diagnose and treat diseases in early stages. A healthy base line can be established for your pet's individual normal values. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Be sure to schedule your pet for an annual or senior wellness exam package that includes a comprehensive physical exam, blood testing, and urine testing. All veterinary services are by appointment only.

Dental Care

Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. Even with regular tooth brushing most pets will need to have some professional dental care throughout their lives. We use modern and safe ultrasonic scalers to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. We polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. In most cases we recommend a product called OraVet, a plaque prevention gel that is applied at home, for use between dental cleanings. Included in each dental cleaning is a set of full mouth digital x-rays that help us evaluate the health of the tooth roots below the gum line.

Unlike most people, dogs and cats don't open wide and say 'AAHHH', at least not for long. For this reason your pet is maintained under general anesthesia for their dentistry procedure. As with all of our anesthetic cases your pet will be monitored closely by our trained anesthetists and top of the line multi-parameter monitors (ECG, blood pressure, SPO2, CO2, respirations, and temperature). They are administered IV fluids throughout the procedure and are recovered in our warm ICU. Your pet can go home the very same day with newly clean teeth and fresh breath.

Surgery

We go to great lengths to ensure that your pet's anesthetic experience is safe, successful, and that recovery is swift. All patients are carefully screened for safety, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet.

Our surgeries are performed with advanced laser technology. The laser works like a scalpel but cauterizes small blood vessels as it goes, creating less bleeding, swelling, tissue damage and pain. It allows a speedier recovery. From routine spays and neuters to lump removals or orthopedic procedures we ensure that your pet is safe and comfortable for the duration of their procedure and recovery. We use our therapeutic Companion Laser for post op treatment to further promote healing and comfort.

All patients are fully monitored by our trained staff. They are situated on a heated surgery table for warmth during and after the procedure. Your pet will be on a multi-parameter monitor that measures ECG, blood pressure, SPO2, CO2, respiration and temperature. We use IV fluid therapy to keep your pet hydrated and to maintain blood pressure while anesthetized. During recovery your pet will be closely monitored by our staff in our heated ICU with soft comfortable bedding. Pain management is high on our list of priorities and we will tailor a post op regimen that will keep your pet's pain under control.

Companion Therapy Laser

The Companion Therapy Laser has been part of pain management and healing at Pet Dominion for several years. It is a dual beam class IV laser that uses gentle therapeutic laser light to increase cellular energy and health to a damaged area. This dramatically speeds healing time and reduces pain and swelling.

This laser is used successfully in the management of chronic pain and stiffness due to arthritis or joint injury. Our vets recommend laser therapy following routine surgeries such as spays and neuters as well as most other soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. We can also use it following the extraction of a tooth. The laser stimulates the immune system, nerve regeneration, and cell reproduction and growth. It is non-invasive, painless and has no side effects. Each treatment lasts between 3 and 8 minutes.

Radiology

Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. They provide a still picture of the internal structures in our pets.

We have the latest technology in radiology, an Eklin digital radiography system. Digital radiographs can be taken quickly and accurately. They can be burned onto a CD or emailed to referral centers.

UltraSound

This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. It is commonly used to evaluate bladder conditions such as cystitis, stones and to obtain guided sterile samples of urine. You may want to have an ultrasound performed on your older dog or cat to evaluate the size, shape and consistency of the abdominal organs in case there are early signs of tumors or disease. Doctors Falter and Carrier are available to perform scheduled ultrasounds five days a week.
