Preparing for your first vet visit

Thank you for choosing Pet Dominion for your furry family member's veterinary needs.

If this is your first time at Pet Dominion or if you have just added a new pet to your home there are a few things you will need to prepare for your first visit.  Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out any necessary paperwork.

1)  Bring any previous medical records and vaccine history that you have.  If you don't have a paper copy of your records you can always call your previous vet and ask them to fax us any pertinent information.  If your pet has a history of medical issues it is often helpful to have the entire record copied so that we can add it to our file.

2)  Fast your pet for 10-12 hours prior to your appointment.  If we need to run any bloodwork for a wellness package or sick pet diagnostics a fasted blood sample is needed.  It is okay to give your pet access to water.  Make sure that you give your pet any medication they may need as usual.  If you need to give them a tiny bit of food with a pill that is okay.  DO NOT FAST DIABETIC PETS.  Feed and give insulin as usual.

3)  Bring fresh samples of urine and stool.  Or at least don't walk your pet just prior to their appointment.  If you have a cat you may want to restrict access to their litter box for a few hours before their appointment.

4)  Become familiar with our annual and senior wellness packages.  We practice preventative medicine at Pet Dominion.  Part of what makes this so successful is compliance with our wellness programs.  Running diagnostics regularly helps maintain your pet's health by catching any abnormalities early on.

5)  Make a list of any questions or concerns you may have.  If your first visit is a sick visit write down a list of symptoms at home so that you don't forget anything.

6)  Ask for a quote.  If you have any concerns about how much our services will cost we will be happy to supply an estimate.
